Here in Colorado Springs, we have Cheyenne Mountain Zoo which is nearly 8000 feet above sea level. It's the highest zoo in the U.S. You stand on a boardwalk, put a piece of lettuce on your hand, and giraffes walk right up to you and eat out of your hand. This activity is particularly popular with children. They get a kick out of it when they see that huge tongue coming out of its mouth. You can see shots of it on the internet.
